Is the metro running now

The panel below shows whether the metro is inside its published operating window — from shortly before 06:00 until midnight. It is not live data: TTC's real-time arrivals cover buses, not the metro, so no site can honestly show a countdown to the next train here.

The rules that are actually published

In forceIN FORCE

₾1 a ride, and 90 minutes of transfers if you pay the right way

The flat fare is ₾1 with a Metromoney card or a bank card at the gate, and that single tap buys 90 minutes of unlimited transfers across metro, buses and minibuses. What it means for you: TTC states that paying through the mobile app or in cash does not include the 90-minute package. On a metro–bus–metro chain that turns ₾1 into ₾3, so tap a card.

The full list of travel packages, including the one most guides miss

Beyond the ₾1 ride there are unlimited packages loaded onto the card: ₾3 for a day, ₾20 a week, ₾40 a month, ₾100 for three months, ₾150 for six and ₾250 for a year. What it means for you: the six-month package is missing from most guides — including ours until August 2026 — which pushes half-year visitors towards the yearly card they do not need. All of them require the card; they cannot be bought on a phone.

Lost your card? Only two stations can help

Damaged and lost Metromoney cards are handled at the problematic-card centres at Avlabari and Medical University — nowhere else. A card that failed on its own is replaced free; one you bent or folded costs ₾2 again. What it means for you: keep the receipt from the payment office. Without it neither a replacement nor the ₾2 refund is possible, and the balance cannot be moved to a new card.

March 2023REOPENED

Gotsiridze back in service after renovation

Gotsiridze station on Line 1 reopened in March 2023 after a long refurbishment. What it means for you: guides written while it was shut still tell you to ride through to Nadzaladevi or Didube.

October 2017OPENED

State University — the first new station of independent Georgia

State University opened on 16 October 2017 at the western end of Line 2, the first entirely new station built since independence. What it means for you: Line 2 runs from Station Square out to the university campus, seven stations in all.

Why other sites give different numbers

Search for the Tbilisi Metro and the numbers do not agree. Here is why — and what we use.

  • «22 stations» versus «23». Line 1 has 16 and Line 2 has 7, which makes 23. The gap is Station Square: it is physically two stations, one per line, joined by a passage, so counting it once gives 22. We say 23 and give the interchange a single page.
  • Precise interval tables. TTC publishes the operating window, not a band-by-band metro timetable. Any site printing exact headways for every hour — this one included, until we relabelled ours — is estimating. Treat them as approximate.
  • «Contactless works the same as the card». For the fare, yes. For the 90-minute transfer window, a bank card counts but the mobile app and cash do not.
  • Live arrival times. TTC has them for buses. For the metro the same service returns nothing, so a countdown on a Tbilisi metro page is not coming from the operator.
  • Ropeway fares inside the ₾1. They are not. Rike–Narikala is ₾2.50 one way and Turtle Lake ₾1.00, paid with the same card but charged separately.
