About State University

State University is an underground station on Line 2 (Saburtalo, the green line) of the Tbilisi Metro and the line’s western terminus. Opened in 2017, it is the newest station in the entire network; its construction had begun back in Soviet times and was finally completed decades later.

The station serves buildings of Ivane Javakhishvili Tbilisi State University (TSU) and the lively student quarter of Saburtalo that surrounds them. Cafés, bookshops, dormitories and everyday services give the area a youthful, academic feel, and the station draws heavy student traffic during term time.

As the end of the green line, State University is where Line 2 trains turn back toward the centre. For passengers it is the natural gateway to the university district and the modern western reaches of Saburtalo.
