About Technical University

Technical University is an underground station on Line 2 (Saburtalo, the green line) of the Tbilisi Metro, opened in 1979 in the heart of the Saburtalo district. It is named for the main campus of the Georgian Technical University (GTU), one of the largest higher-education institutions in the country, whose buildings stand close to the station.

The area has a distinctly academic character. Thousands of students pass through each day, and the streets around the entrances are filled with cafés, bookshops, student dormitories and small services catering to the university crowd. Beyond the campus, the surrounding blocks form a typical residential pocket of Saburtalo.

As a busy mid-line stop, the station links the university quarter to the rest of the green line, carrying students and staff eastward toward the centre or westward into the wider Saburtalo neighbourhoods.
