About Station Square

Station Square (Georgian: სადგურის მოედანი, Sadguris Moedani) is the busiest and most important station in the Tbilisi Metro — the single interchange where Line 1 (Akhmeteli–Varketili) and Line 2 (Saburtalo) meet. The Line 1 platform opened with the very first metro section in 1966; the Line 2 platform followed in 1979.

The station sits directly beneath Station Square, next to the Tbilisi Central Railway Station — the hub for intercity and suburban trains — and a major intercity bus and marshrutka area. The vast Deserter’s Bazaar, one of the largest markets in the city, spreads out just beside it.

Changing between the two lines is free: stay inside the paid area and follow the signs between the platforms (about a 3-minute walk). Because every cross-line journey in Tbilisi passes through here, Station Square handles enormous passenger flows all day, and it is the natural arrival point for travellers stepping off an intercity train and heading into the metro.

Yes. Station Square sits directly below Tbilisi Central Railway Station, so it is the natural connection between the metro and intercity or suburban trains.
The huge Deserter’s Bazaar market is right beside the station, along with the railway terminal and a busy intercity bus and marshrutka area. It is a transport and trade hub rather than a sightseeing stop.
