About 300 Aragveli

300 Aragveli is an underground station on Line 1 (Akhmeteli–Varketili, the red line) of the Tbilisi Metro, opened in 1967. It lies in the Isani district on the left bank of the Mtkvari and mainly serves the surrounding residential streets and their local shops.

The station takes its name from the 300 Aragvians — three hundred warriors from the Aragvi valley who, according to tradition, died defending Tbilisi at the Battle of Krtsanisi in 1795 against the invading forces of Agha Mohammad Khan of Persia. Their stand is one of the most remembered episodes in the city’s history, and the name keeps that memory present in everyday travel.

Today 300 Aragveli is a workaday commuter stop. There is a small park and monument area nearby, and the station is used above all by people living in the densely built neighbourhoods around it heading toward the centre or out to the eastern districts.
