About Rustaveli

Rustaveli is an underground station on Line 1 (Akhmeteli–Varketili, the red line), set beneath Rustaveli Avenue, the central and most important boulevard in Tbilisi. Opened in 1966 as part of the original metro section, it is also the deepest station in the network, lying roughly 60 metres below the surface and served by one of the city’s longest escalators.

The station sits at the cultural heart of the capital. Within a short walk are the Georgian National Museum, the Rustaveli Theatre, the Opera and Ballet Theatre, the Parliament of Georgia and Kashveti Church, alongside galleries, bookshops and grand civic architecture.

Because it anchors the main shopping and museum district, Rustaveli is one of the busiest and most useful stations for visitors. Its deep platform and monumental escalators are themselves part of the experience of arriving in the city centre.
