About Isani
Isani is an underground station on Line 1 (Akhmeteli–Varketili, the red line) of the Tbilisi Metro, opened in 1971. It serves the densely populated Isani district on the left bank of the Mtkvari, one of the most heavily built-up parts of the city.
The station is a genuine commuter hub. Right around the exits is the busy Isani market, and the surrounding streets form a major surface transport point where city buses and marshrutka minibuses gather, including routes heading east out of the city toward the Kakheti region.
Isani is a workaday rather than a tourist station: its traffic is made up of residents, shoppers and people connecting between the metro and feeder buses. The mix of market stalls, shops and transport keeps the area around the station crowded and lively for most of the day.
