About Ghrmaghele

Ghrmaghele is a Line 1 (Akhmeteli–Varketili, the red line) station in the Nadzaladevi district, anchoring a cluster of residential micro-districts in the north of Tbilisi.

Its name comes from the Georgian for a deep ravine or spring, a reference to the local topography of gullies and watercourses that once defined this edge of the city before the apartment blocks went up. The station opened in 1985 as the metro pushed further north to reach the growing housing estates.

Today Ghrmaghele is a practical, everyday station rather than a tourist stop. A nearby local market, neighbourhood shops and several bus stops make it a useful hub for residents of the surrounding districts, who rely on it to connect with the rest of the city to the south.
