About Sarajishvili

Sarajishvili is a station on Line 1 (Akhmeteli–Varketili, the red line), serving the densely built residential districts where Nadzaladevi meets Gldani in the northern part of Tbilisi.

The station and the avenue above it both carry the name of David Sarajishvili (1848–1911), the Georgian philanthropist, patron of the arts and founder of the country’s brandy and cognac industry. His legacy is still bound up with Georgian winemaking heritage, and the name lends the station a recognisable local identity.

Set among rows of Soviet-era apartment blocks, Sarajishvili is very much a commuter station, feeding the metro with residents heading south toward the centre each morning. Around the entrances you’ll find neighbourhood shops, kiosks and several bus and minibus stops that extend the station’s reach into the surrounding micro-districts.
