About Guramishvili

Guramishvili sits on Line 1 (Akhmeteli–Varketili, the red line) in the Nadzaladevi district, one of the high-density residential belts that grew up along the northern reaches of the metro during the Soviet era.

The station is named after Davit Guramishvili (1705–1792), one of the most important figures in Georgian literature, whose collected works Davitiani shaped the national poetic tradition. Naming a metro station for a classic poet is typical of Tbilisi, where many stations honour cultural figures.

Surrounded by tightly packed apartment blocks, local markets and schools, Guramishvili is above all a commuter station. Streams of residents pass through it daily on the way to and from the centre, and the area around the entrances is lively with small traders, bus stops and everyday neighbourhood services.
