About Varketili

Varketili is the south-eastern terminus of Line 1 (Akhmeteli–Varketili, the red line) of the Tbilisi Metro, opened in 1985. It serves the Varketili district, a large complex of Soviet-era apartment blocks built to house a substantial part of the city’s population in the south-east.

As the end of the red line, the station is an important gateway for the surrounding estates. A local bazaar and market sits near the exits, and many bus and marshrutka feeder routes begin or end here, carrying residents the last stretch home from the metro into the wider district.

Varketili is firmly a residential, commuter station. Its passengers are overwhelmingly local people travelling to work and back, and during peak hours the flow between the trains and the feeder minibuses outside makes it one of the busier stops on this end of the line.
